The WRU has introduced a Club Accreditation Scheme that assesses clubs both on‑field and off‑field to determine funding levels and support. The Documents in this section support the clubs application for investment.
Funding is now split evenly between these two areas.
1. On‑Field Assessment
Clubs earn points each season based on rugby activity, including: Number of active teams (Mini, Junior, Youth, Senior), Number of registered players, Coach qualifications, Team activity such as fixtures, festivals, and tournaments.
This creates a weighted score reflecting the level and quality of rugby participation.
2. Off‑Field Assessment (Accreditation Levels)
Clubs are assessed across several operational and organisational criteria, with ratings from:
Standard → Bronze → Silver → Gold → Platinum.
Criteria include: Governance and compliance, Facilities quality, Club culture and inclusivity, Workforce development (coaches, volunteers, safeguarding).
Clubs receive more funding as they reach higher accreditation levels.
3. Purpose of the Assessment
The system is designed to: Create safe, welcoming, inclusive clubs, Encourage stronger governance and long-term planning, Ensure WRU funds are used appropriately (e.g., preventing payment of players), Align clubs with the WRU’s One Wales community rugby strategy.
