CWMGORS 19 v LAUGHARNE 42 |

Laugharne got themselves back to winning ways with a satisfactory, if
not convincing result against lowly Cwmgors, Cwmgors kicked off down the
slope but it was Laugharne who took the initiative. In the 5th
minute Laugharne worked their way up into the Cwmgors half and from a
well won lineout, flyhalf Ross Harries brought No.8 John Bowen into play
who powered forward and from the ensuing ruck Harries showed the
ball and with a short pass sent centre Nick Thomas on a line towards the
Cwmgors posts to score. Full back Alistair Chambers made no mistake with
the simple conversion attempt.
From the restart, Cwmgors found themselves in the Laugharne 22 and with
sustained pressure caused Laugharne to carry the ball over their own try
line. From the scrum Cwmgors pressed forward and after several probes,
the Laugharne defence was found wanting as centre J.Thomas crossed to
level the scores. This try was converted by lock S. Jones to level the
scores. This parity was not to last long as Laugharne launched further
attacks into the Cwmgors half. With Laugharne camped in the Cwmgors 22
and keeping possession, skipper Phil Brown probed, followed by No.8
Bowen and eventually prop Robert Jones was over for a well deserved try.
Chambers made no mistake with the conversion attempt.

Laugharne maintained their momentum and after an excellent run by
flanker Robin Hussellbee the movement was carried forward by live wire
wing Mark Stephenson deep into the Cwmgors 22. From the breakdown, the
Laugharne forwards set up the ball and despite having an overlap,
flyhalf Harries used his upper body strength to force his way over and
behind the posts to score, giving Chambers the easiest of conversion
kicks and to bring the game to half time.
Laugharne restarted the second half , but from the woeful kick off,
Cwmgors were soon in the Laugharne 22 and with Laugharne having their
customary dozey 15 minutes, Cwmgors took their chances and after a lot
of hard driving by their forwards, flyhalf B.Davies squeezed in at the
corner flag for an unconverted try.

From the restart, Laugharne came out of their lethargy with prop Endaf
Howells carrying the ball into the Cwmgors half. With good interplay
between backs and forwards and moving the ball swifty to the left and
back to the right and then hooker Mark Jones injecting a straight run to
the line, he found centre Adam Davies on his shoulder to take the inside
pass to score. Chambers again added the conversion to take the game
further away from Cwmgors. At this juncture, Laugharne looked to finish
off the match, but Cwmgors still had a sting in the tail. With Laugharne
looking ominous and throwing the ball in gay abandon and looking as if
they were about to score the ball was intercepted by lock Jones who went
on a zig zag run to the Laugharne line, a try which he subsequently
converted.
Laugharne shrugged off this setback and were soon back in the Cwmgors
half playing their expansive brand of rugby and with good hands in the
blustery and cold conditions the ball was moved left and right and
eventually, centre Davies completed the movement to secure his 2nd try.
Chambers again converted to take the score to 35pts -19pts in
Laugharne`s favour. Laugharne were now in rampant form and with full
time looming, Laugharne again set off down the slope with young lock
Chris Thomas prominent and with good interplay between prop Jones and
flyhalf Harries, full back Simon Davies completed the movement to cross
half way out. Chambers maintained his 100% kicking record with the
straightforward conversion to bring the game to a close.
Laugharne`s next game is a welcome home fixture against good friends and
rivals Pembroke Dock Quins on Feb 16th at 2-30 pm.
